Young people and adults are busy planning an incredible Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) weekend experience for the youth in our community January 16-18. The event will be held at St. John’s Cathedral in Spokane, and will be the second TEC to be held in Spokane.
Enthusiasm is high and we know it will be a meaningful weekend. This weekend spiritual journey is for youth in 9th through 12th grades. The TEC experience is an entire weekend for youth and led by youth. TEC is modeled on a Cursillo spiritual renewal experience. During the weekend there are a series of ten youth led talks combined with worship that lead the youth through the Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Pentecost experience.
This is a weekend where teens that have participated in TEC before (these youths make up what is known as the Team) show the candidates (youth who are participating for the first time or TEC’er) God’s love. The young people who attend will experience friendships, enjoy fun activities, and come alive to their own spirituality. Teens Encountering Christ helps to build young people up spiritually. Through this experience they take responsibility for their faith life.
Throughout the weekend the youth will be busy working at developing new paths of faith or enriching their already existing ones and making many new friendships. It also prepares our youth to be leaders as the expectation is that after experiencing a TEC a youth will then take on leadership roles in subsequent TEC’s.
