Askings Task Force Still Gathering Information
During the breakout session on the diocesan asking during Diocesan Convention several attendees asked for another opportunity to answer the questions in the letter sent to Senior Wardens regarding askings practices with the Spokane Diocese. Based on those requests, the period for response has been extended until Jan. 1. Contact Ted Paterson for a copy of the Task Force questionnaire at tvpat@my180.net. The response should be mailed to Ted at Grace Church, 301 S. 3rd St. Dayton, WA 99328.
A Note from Finance Officer Libby Beck
Following up on the financial reports presented at diocesan Convention this year, please note that the way the Diocese computes the asking for 2010 will be changed. As the Asking Task Force, Treasurer, and Budget presentations announced, the asking for 2010 will be EITHER the computed 2010 asking (for which pledge letters were sent out earlier this year) OR the 2009 asking, WHICHEVER IS THE LESSER. If, for example, your congregation paid $6,000 in asking for 2009 but was asked to pledge $7,000 in 2010, then you would pay the lesser of the two figures, or $6,000, for 2010. This was intended to provide relief to congregations who are experiencing smaller revenues due to the economic downturn. Amended pledge letters will be sent out shortly to reflect this change. Thanks go to the Asking Task Force, the Executive Committee and the Administration & Finance Committee of Council for taking steps to provide this one-time relief.
How to Share Your Faith Without Spooking Your Friends (Sept. 14)
The Rev. Canon Victoria Heard, canon for church planting in the Diocese of Dallas, will present a daylong workshop Nov. 14 at St. Paul’s Walla Walla, on “How to Share Your Faith Without Spooking Your Friends.” The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and registration fee (which includes snacks and lunch) is $15. Please register by Nov. 9 by contacting Tanya at 509.529.1083. Some scholarship assistance is available.
