Reflection from Bishop Waggoner
I had the enriching experience of being at the meetings of the Commission on Ministry and the Standing Committee (briefly) on Friday and Saturday this past weekend, just before heading out to Yakima for my annual visitation to St. Timothy’s/San Timoteo congregations. It was a full weekend of reminders about how many people are involved in conscientious, prayerful, and vital ministries in the Diocese. My respect and appreciation for leaders of committees, commissions, and congregations only grow, as does my gratitude for the generosity of so many in the giving of themselves, their time, and unique gifts for God’s mission.
St. Timothy’s, while in the search process for their next rector, is not searching for leadership and a high level of commitment from its members, it’s already there and evident. And having been at St. Timothy’s for four worship services, a vestry/search committee meeting, and time for open conversation with the congregations (including San Timoteo), I can attest to the reality that the life and ministry of the congregation goes on as discernment for the gifts sought in their next priest to join them as a partner in ministry. More than a dozen people came forward for the laying-on-of-hands to reaffirm their Baptismal Vows. Seems to me a very good use of all our hands.
