Do Justice

Doug Beane and Valarie Compton, Interim Committee Leaders

All Christians are called in baptism to live in Easter joy, to be “salt of the earth” and “light to the world.”

As the faith community of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane, we are committed to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ; to seek and serve Christ in all persons; to love our neighbors as ourselves; to strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being. (from the Baptismal Covenant)

Under the leadership of our Bishop, we seek to empower parishes to

  • focus outreach and advocacy with the poor, vulnerable and voiceless in our communities and the world, following Christ’s example;
  • invite, welcome, include, equip and send forth all people;
  • involve all members from the very young to the very old, from the cradle to the grave;
  • offer continuing faith formation into new life in Christ;
  • challenge all of us in our community of faith to live boldly into our baptismal covenant.

In the fall of 2006, the committee prepared an article for the Inland Episcopalian describing our objectives. In the winter of 2006-2007, Doug Beane and Valarie Compton assumed committee leadership on an interim basis. Currently the Do Justice Committee is focusing on how to expand membership, attempting to define short and long term objectives, and developing a plan of action. Meetings are held on at least a quarterly basis.
