Constitution and Canons

The Constitution and Canons serve as the primary governing documents of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane. The Constitution contains many of the key structures of the Diocese and is more difficult to change than the Canons.

Amendments to the Constitution require passage by two subsequent Diocesan Conventions, first by a majority vote, and second by a vote by orders. Finally the Bishop must concur with Convention on the Amendment for it to take effect.

Amendments to the Canons require a 2/3 majority at one Annual Convention in order to take effect. No concurrence by the bishop is required.

For more information on the Constitution and Canons or information on how to proposing amendments, contact J. Scott Miller, Chair of the Diocesan Consitution and Canons Committee.

Please note: The Constitution posted here is that adopted by the 2008 Convention; no changes were made to the Canons in 2008.
