Faith Formation in an Interfaith World

Can authentic Christian spiritual practice be enriched by an understanding of other approaches to the mystery of God? Spiritus, the diocesan center for spirituality, will explore that question Oct. 25 when the Rev. Robert Corin Morris leads a workshop, “Faith Formation in an Interfaith World.” The event, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be at St. John’s Cathedral. Morris, an Episcopal priest and spiritual director, is founder of “Interweave,” an ecumenical and interfaith center in New Jersey. He is also the author of several books on spirituality. Free DVD set looks at emergent church, young adults

A new 2- DVD set from the Evangelism and Congregational Center and Mission Leadership Center of the Episcopal Church is available without charge from the Episcopal Resource Center. Worshipping was filmed in Minneapolis as the congregational development group explored several emergent church settings and discussed their experiences. Talking features a group of young adults sharing their backgrounds, expressing their concerns and needs and voicing their hope for the future. The set can be ordered online at www.episcopalbookstore.org or by phone 800.903.5544. You will be charged for shipping. The best way to find this on the website is to look for the box “advanced search” and type in “worshipping.” The order information should come up.

Large-print hymns

“Sing Praise to God” is a Large-Print Ministry CD featuring 338 hymns from the Hymnal 1982. All hymns are in the public domain and in 20-point type. They were compiled by Ann Dahlen. To order, send a self-addressed, stamped 6×9 inch envelope with four 42-cent stamps (5 for a padded envelope) to Ann Dahlen, 1900 6th Ave., Apt. 513, Rock Island, IL 61201. Donations are appreciated. Make checks payable to Ann Dahlen. The Book of Common Prayer and a selection of psalms and prayers are also available. Please indicate which resource you are ordering and send a separate envelope for each.

Member Mission Leadership Institute

A four-day workshop offered by the Member Mission Leadership Institute will invite clergy and lay leaders to empower the laity to be agents of mission. The event will be at the Spiritual Life Center in Greenwich, NY. Registration fee is $100 and partial travel reimbursement is available. Registration deadline is Sept. 15. Radical welcome

“Creating Radically Welcoming Communities” is the theme of a workshop Feb. 21, sponsored by the dioceses of Olympia and Oregon. The event will be in Vancouver, WA, and will look at the nature of radical welcome; identifying who the ‘other’ is; understand power dynamics and social norms at work in congregations and examining the impact of radical welcome on the congregational system. Mediation skills training

Lombard Mennonite Peace Center will present mediation skills training for church leaders in San Diego and Cincinnati. The San Diego workshop is Oct. 6-10. The Cincinnati area workshop will be Nov. 17-21 in Florence, KY. The sessions are designed to equip church leaders with skills to deal with congregational and other forms of conflict. Gonzaga faculty available to churches

Gonzaga University Religious Studies faculty are available to teach in adult education events in local congregations. A booklet listing various faculty members, their areas of interest and expertise, and suggested stipends has been mailed to churches. Additional copies of the listing are available. AIDS care teams

Volunteer orientation and training are scheduled Sept. 20 for Spokane area multifaith AIDS care teams. The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Unity Church, 2900 S. Bernard St. Volunteers express their compassion and values through parctical, emotional and spiritual support for individuals or families living with HIV/AIDS. They do not give medical care and there is no risk of infection from volunteer activity. Call Catholic Charities for information 509.358.4273 or contact Scott Cooper at scooper@ccspokane.org. There is a $10 registration fee that includes lunch.

A good source of preaching help is www.workingpreacher.org. This Lutheran site has information about each of the Sunday readings from the Revised Common Lectionary.
