Love this article about Jeff, and the Thanksgiving service, and then the ending prayer, "We Give You Thanks, O God."

This is a prayer that gets around. Though she wouldn't especially agree to attach her name to it, our own Kristi Philip, writer extraordinaire as well as a priest, wrote this prayer that we use every Sunday at St. John's Cathedral. We love it so much we used the whole prayer as a theme in our debt campaign several years ago. It is so perfect to see it in the service and homily for Thanksgiving that Jeff led.

Why is the 9/27 meeting from 4 - 7 the only one in which there will be no food?! Delegates from Omak have a two hour drive each way. When are they supposed to eat? I will have a 65 minute drive each way, and I don't want to take an hour at a restaurant in Wenatchee before I head for home. Is there anything we can do about this?

YES: we can't even appreciate what we have 'in' the church until we reach out into the community around us. And the Rev. is right: the modern young person isn't interested (much) in our ongoing debates; s/he wants to Belong, to Participate in something, and something worthwhile.

But mostly the Rev. is re-aligning our focus: as we increase our desire to 'recruit' others to church, we are unable to do so as long as we fail to grow deeper into our own faith. Constant Growing attracted me to the Episcopal church years ago.

Finally, a quote from a 20th-century evangelist might be appropos here: "God never intended the church to be a refrigerator, in which to preserve perishable piety, but rather an incubator, out of which to hatch converts."

thank you for the article!
