<p><strong>Spokane Integrity/Dignity Meeting  (Sept.11)<br />
</strong>Spokane Integrity/Dignity will meet at noon Saturday, Sept. 11 in All Saints Chapel at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.    A potluck luncheon will follow a brief prayer service.</p>
<p><strong>Listening for God: A Camp Cross Spirituality Retreat  (Sept. 17-19)</strong><strong><br />
</strong>Camp Cross will host a spirituality ‘Listening for God’ the weekend of September 17-19.  Led by the Rev. Dr. Nancy Copeland-Payton, pastor, author, medical doctor, and director of Gonzaga University’s spiritual direction program, the weekend will explore fundamental themes and practices of spiritual discernment. Cost  is $9.  In addition, the Rev. Copeland-Payton will be available on Thursday, Sept.  16 and Friday, September 17 at 10 and  11am and 2, 3, and 4 p.m. for individual spiritual direction for a suggested donation of $35-50.  For more information on registration and logistics and/or to schedule a slot for spiritual direction, please contact the Rev. <p><strong>Seeking God’s Grace for the Gulf  (Oct. 3)<br />
</strong>The National Council of Churches and its 36 member communions believe that prayer, reflection and healing are part of the long-term recovery that is vital for the Gulf. To begin this process, they are hosting a day of worship, prayer and healing on Oct. 3 and invite others to join in by hosting a worship service, candle light vigil or other event that lifts up the needs of those in the Gulf. </strong>St. Stephen’s, Spokane, will offer conversation and worship to observe the anniversary of the death of their former rector the Rev. John Shepard on Aug. 24.  There will be a conversation with the Rev. Nancy Copeland-Payton in the parish hall at 6:30 p.m.  Evensong will begin at 7:45 in the church.  Copeland-Payton is a Presbyterian minister, a physician and author of “The Losses of Our Lives.”  All are welcome.</p>
<p><strong>2010 Diocesan Convention Update<br />
</strong>Registration forms for the October, 2010 Diocesan Convention will be available soon via a mailing to delegates and clergy, and on the diocesan website.  The registration fee for each participant will be $50.00.  The meals for this year’s convention have been considerably reduced from a total of $95 for last year’s convention to $60 for this year’s convention (when registrants select “all meals.”)  The Saturday night banquet will be catered by Fiesta Mexicana in the Great Hall at St John’s, which includes a vegetarian option (available on the registration form).</p>
<p>There will also be a parallel Youth Convention at St John’s concurrent with the Diocesan Convention.  Youth participants will be asked to complete a separate registration form, which will be available soon on the diocesan website.</p>

<p><strong>Dates Set for Clergy Retreat, Conference<br />
</strong>Dates for the 2011 clergy retreat and clergy conference have been set.  The retreat will be Feb. 21-14 at Immaculate Heart Retreat Center near Spokane.  Clergy conference is scheduled May 16-18, also at Immaculate Heart. Program details will be announced later.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The Rev. Jacqueline (Jackie ) Dickson  1939-2010<br />
</strong>The Rev. Jackie Dickson, former rector of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Spokane Valley, died July 13 at home after a long illness.  She was born in Massachusetts and was a registered nurse before entering seminary.  She graduated from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1979 and served as an associate at St. Clare’s, Pleasanton, CA, and St. John’s in Kirkland before moving to Spokane where she was one of the first women priests to serve in parish ministry. She served at Holy Spirit from 1986-1994 before retiring. During that time she was chair of the Commission on Ministry, was the dean of the Spokane Deanery and was active in Cursillo.  She earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1992 from San Francisco Theological Seminary and was certified as a pastoral counselor.  After retirement she continued her ministry in pastoral counseling and spiritual direction.  Survivors include her husband, Bill, and their six adult children. Please keep all of them in your prayers.  Services are scheduled at 3 p.m. Monday, July 19 at St. John’s Cathedral with a reception following.  Condolences may be sent to Bill Dickson at 14820 E. 8<sup>th</sup> Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99037.  May angels surround Jackie  and saints welcome her in peace. </p>
<p><strong>Sunnyside to Host  Congregational Development Workshop (July 21)<br />
</strong>The Rev. Paul Lebens-Englund, Canon for Congregational Development, will offer a regional congregational development workshop from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 at Holy Trinity, Sunnyside.  The workshop, hosted by Holy Trinity’s vestry, will serve as an introduction to some of the core concepts of congregational development.  The workshop is aimed at vestry members and other key congregational leaders, but is open to anyone who would  like to know more about planned change in our congregations.  There is no charge, but participants are encouraged to bring something sweet to share.  Please RSVP to Carol Mercer, Holy Trinity’s senior warden, at <a href="mailto:jmercer5029@charter.net">jmercer5029@charter.net</a> or 509.837.5029.</p>

</strong>The Rev. Mary June Nestler, Canon for Ministry Formation in the Diocese of Utah, will lead a session on “Matthew’s Gospel: Insights for Studying, Praying and Preaching,” Aug. 5-8 at Ascension School Camp and Conference Center in Cove, OR. <p><strong>Cathedral Accepting Items for Haiti Benefit  (Aug. 28)<br />
